After studying classical music as a flautist and sound engineering at
the Ecole Louis Lumière in Paris, Ninon started playing Afro jazz funk
with Rido Bayonne Big Band, performing alongside Paco Séry and Etienne
M’Bappé, appearing at Montreux Jazz Festival, Tabarka Jazz Festival,
the New Morning among others and touring Cameroon and the Congo.
She later moved to England to complete a master in Jazz Performance at
Leeds College of Music. Ninon is a member of LIMA and its orchestra,
and performed with Ken Vandermark for a concert broadcast on BBC Radio
3 during the FuseLeeds Festival. She also plays with several jazz bands
in and around Leeds.
Ninon has recently toured nationally with tabla player Manveer Singh on his Indian jazz fusion project “Marva, my journey”.
She still appears regularly in Paris in various jazz formations, as well as performs for contemporary music and tango.
Ninon is also one of only two bandoneon players based in the UK and in
2006 formed her own trio FUEYE TANGO. She has been studying in Paris
for the past 10 years with Juan Jose Mosalini, one of the few masters
of the instrument. Ninon has also worked with Dino Saluzzi developing
her technique of improvisation on the instrument and extending her
knowledge of traditional Argentinian music. Her recent journey to
Buenos Aires where she met and worked with many Argentinian musicians
has confirmed her desire to share her passion for this most
exhilarating musical experience.
ARGENTINIAN LANDSCAPE PROJECT, her latest endeavour, was conceived during this journey.
As well as her own trio, Ninon plays the bandoneon for London-based
tango quintet, TANGO VOLCANO, in a repertoire including traditional
tangos, Piazzolla's music and specially commissioned pieces by
contemporary composers.
Ninon also works as a stage musician and composer, she was on placement
for a year at West Yorkshire Playhouse and is the Musical Director of
Theatre of the Dales. In 2004 she devised her own solo piece “Perles
secrètes…”, a blend of theatre, storytelling and music, which she
performed in France. She also tour
ed with the National Trust Theatre Company in their show “As far as I
can sea” under the musical direction of Kneehigh Theatre Stu Barker.
Ninon is currently working on 2 films projects as a composer and soundscape designer.
FUEYE TANGO
FUEYE TANGO was formed to play music for tango dancers. They are
inspired by the unique partnership between musicians and dancers and
use this to create an exhilarating blend of tango music from the clubs
of Buenos Aires. In the past year they have been highly acclaimed in
milongas around the UK as well as in Paris, the long standing capital
of tango in Europe.
Fueye Tango also play a concert set with a repertoire including
traditional tango, Piazzolla's compositions and bandoneon solos. A
workshop for musicians and one on musicality for tango dancers are also
available.
Fueye Tango have recently received a grant from the Arts Council of England to study in Paris with Juan Jose Mosalini.
